Standing

Katelyn now likes to try standing on her own. She also really likes to watch videos of herself on our blog, so I've been trying to add more. Maybe "really likes" doesn't capture her enjoyment of watching herself. She can be crying pretty hard, then as soon as the video comes on she smiles. By the second time through a short video she'll probably even be laughing and talking to herself.

Katelyn's Halloween Package

Katelyn received a fun package last week from her thoughtful cousin. (Maybe his mom helped with it a little...thanks Andersons!) She really enjoyed it a lot. Here she is exploring the contents of the package for the first time.

She quickly decided she liked the candy. She didn't actually have any candy, but she has loved chewing on the wrappers since she first discovered them.

This weekend Jason fed her some of the candy. She really enjoyed it. This morning she was playing nicely with the "wrappers" while I was trying to do some cleaning. Foolishly it didn't occur to me that she now knows what is inside the wrappers. I turned around to discover this.

Her face, hands and new shirt were all covered in Kit-Kat. At least she was happy and playing nicely!

The Park

We live in a great place with lots of parks. A few days ago it was beautiful outside, and Katelyn and I took a walk to our favorite one (okay, we haven't actually tried any of the others out). She loves to swing, and I can tell she feels very big when she gets to play on the equipment.

Walking with a "walker"

Yesterday Katelyn and I went shopping and found her a new favorite toy. For under $3 we got this "table" that she LOVES. It's actually a Play-dough work station, but we use it as a walker. She loves being able to get from place to place around our apartment with it.

Pumpkin Patch

We got to go to Grandma and Grandpa Halling's for General Conference, and Grandma Halling took us to the pumpkin patch to get a pumpkin. (Thanks Grandma!) Here are some pictures from the day.

Katelyn kept trying to eat the wood cut out. She didn't quite understand the "put your face in the hole" concept.

Here we are looking at pumpkins. She liked them all. It was a hard choice.
They had a wooden "train" to sit in. Katelyn was very impressed with the bell attached to the string she is holding. (Note: I was not planning on being in any pictures...so no make-up and the hair wasn't done.)

I can't believe she is so big already! I'm pretty sure she was watching the kids and dogs at the pumpkin patch when I took this picture. Those were the coolest things there. She LOVES kids and dogs.

Kate's Traits

In reading a friends blog I saw that she had a list of facts about her boy at 7 months. I really liked reading it (Thanks J'Nette!), so I decided to make one about Katelyn. She is almost 10 months old now, and here are some updates about what she is like currently.
  • She LOVES reading. If she's grumpy we can read and it always makes her happy. She turns the pages and even opens the flaps if books have them.
  • She always wants to be standing.
  • Favorite foods: peaches, canned green beans, spaghetti-o's with meatballs (mostly she likes the meatballs)
  • She takes one nap now. About 2 hours (or shorter).
  • She usually sleeps 12-13 hours a night. (Wonderful child!)
  • Watching older kids is one of her favorite activities.
  • She has recently decided growling is fun.
  • She would probably stay in the bathtub all day long if I let her.
  • At least at naps (not always at bedtime) she puts herself to sleep if I just put her in her bed. (Did I mention she's a wonderful child?)
  • She thinks she always needs to feed herself.
  • She always offers me her food while she's eating, and she thinks it's so funny if I actually let her feed me something.
  • The thing that makes her more excited than anything else we've ever seen is the garage door opening.
