Tortillas

Katelyn is the most wonderful little helper around the house. She really loves to help cook, do laundry, sweep, do dishes, get the mail...just about everything there is to do around the house. She just doesn't like vacuuming. The vacuum currently scares her.

This post is a bit about my little chef. She loves to don her apron and help around the kitchen. She also has a toy set of dishes (thanks Grandma F!) that she uses when I'm not working in the kitchen. She requests water in her toy bowl and whisks it lots and lots until it is ready for her to drink. This also results in requests for towels. It is hard to keep from spilling as you whisk water in a small bowl.

On one particular day recently I was making tortillas for dinner. (If you haven't ever made tortillas from scratch, do it. They are tasty. I can't eat store bought tortillas anymore. Well, maybe that will just encourage you to NOT try. These are pretty yummy. I even substitute vegetable shortening for the lard like it says not to do.) Katelyn of course needed to help. She quickly gets a chair and pushes it to the counter when I start cooking. Then she puts on her apron.
She also has her rolling pin from her play cooking set. And of course any good cook has to test her food to make sure it is up to her standards.
It was in the midst of rolling and cooking tortillas that Katelyn first noticed the mess she was making with flour.
My little girl is obsessed with cleaning in addition to cooking. Naturally she quickly requested a rag when we finished with the tortillas. Then she got to work.
Isn't she so cute and helpful? I have so much fun watching her grow and develop each day into such a wonderful little girl.

Potty Trained

Katelyn is potty trained! Woo hoo! She can go all day keeping her underwear dry and clean. Happy days! She actually has been for a while, but I just hadn't written anything. We started a few weeks ago. She got sick and had terrible diarrhea. That was a bit of a setback. Anyway, she's been on track for a while now.

She comes and tells me "potty" when she has to go. Ideally I wouldn't have to still help her, but she only likes using the "big potty". Good thing we bought one of those cute little potty chairs. She is also a terribly ineffective climber, so she can't get up on the toilet on her own. Even with a stool. I'm happy to help her if it means I don't have to change diapers. My girl is 21 months and all grown up!

And...since posts are more fun with pictures I'll a couple of those too. These illustrate Katelyn's new bathtub game.

Step #1: Put pony (which was actually my toy as a child) on the faucet.
Step #2: Pour water on the pony. (Ends up knocking the pony off the faucet.)Step #3: Repeat Steps #1 and #2...over and over.Such a fun game!

Putting Katelyn to Sleep

Sometimes it is very hard to get Katelyn to fall asleep at night. This is mostly the case if she gets a nap at all. Yesterday she napped. Jason was trying to put her to bed, and at about 10:00 pm she came walking down the hallway to see me. She came alone. No dad. This made me go investigate, and I found Jason like this.
Katelyn had successfully put him to sleep in her bed, and then she decided he needed to be decorated with lots of books and Mickey Mouse. She even left her bink there on his forearm.

She also came to tell me that she needed something to eat. Her stuffed bear and Mickey (now no longer on top of Dad) clearly needed to join her. Poor girl needs siblings. She resorts to using stuffed animals and dolls to fill the table.
After she was seated, I got a short video of her telling me where Dad went.

Grown Up

Sometimes I can't believe how grown up Katelyn is. I took this picture a few days ago while she was watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse before bedtime. Doesn't she look so old?
